It all started with a bag of croissants. Founders Julia Watson and Lance Borgers realized  the excess of food in their lives was not prevalent in the lives of every family in their community. The fact that day old pastries were being wasted because they weren't profitable was a concerning issue for the two. 

"In the United States food waste is estimated at 30-40% of the food supply" -USDA

There is a shocking amount of edible food wasted every day in the United States. Hence Bend Food Services was born: a program to save bakeries and cafes the hassle of transporting their day-old goods by delivering them through a network of students passionate about serving their community. Without the inconvenience of transporting the goods themselves, these bakeries can help aid hungry families in need.
